Dyson Ball Animal 3 Upright Vacuum, Corded, 290AW, De-tangling Motorbar Cleaner Head

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is a corded upright vacuum built specifically for larger homes where pet hair and heavy debris are everyday problems. Its standout feature is the Motorbar cleaner head, which actively removes hair wrapped around the brush bar while you vacuum, so you are not stopping every few minutes to pick out tangles by hand. That alone makes it a meaningful upgrade for anyone who owns long-haired pets or lives with people who shed heavily.

Suction flexibility is handled through three selectable modes: one for deep- and medium-pile carpets, one for low-pile carpets and large debris, and one for hard floors and ground-in dirt. Switching between them means you can use a single vacuum throughout the whole house rather than juggling multiple tools. The Radial Root Cyclone technology works behind the scenes to maintain consistent suction as the bin fills, so performance does not noticeably drop off mid-clean.

Maneuvering is managed by the ball mechanism at the base. Turning the vacuum around chair legs or into tight corners requires only a gentle wrist movement rather than picking the machine up and repositioning it. The whole-machine filtration system is also worth noting: it is designed to trap particles inside the vacuum rather than expelling them back into the air, which matters in a home where air quality is a concern. Two accessories come in the box, a stair tool and a combination tool, covering common above-floor cleaning tasks.

A few practical limits are worth knowing. Because this is a corded vacuum, your cleaning range depends entirely on outlet placement in each room. The listing does not specify cord length, bin capacity, or the machine's weight, so shoppers who care about those details will need to check elsewhere. Only two accessories are included, which may feel limited if you want a broader toolkit out of the box.

Verdict: The Ball Animal 3 is a well-considered upright vacuum for pet owners in larger homes who want automatic hair de-tangling, multi-floor suction control, and easy steering in a single machine. If a corded format and a higher price point work for your situation, it covers most everyday vacuuming needs without asking much of you between sessions.

A great fit if you:

• Have one or more pets that shed heavily and are tired of clearing hair from the brush bar by hand
• Clean a larger home with a mix of carpet types and hard floors and want one vacuum that handles all of them
• Want a machine that steers easily around furniture without lifting or repositioning it
• Value long-term support and want a 5-year warranty backed by app-based guidance

Consider something else if you:

• Need a cordless vacuum so you can move freely between floors or areas far from outlets
• Want a wide range of specialized attachments beyond a stair tool and combination tool

Does the vacuum work on both carpet and hard floors?
Yes. It has three suction modes covering deep- and medium-pile carpets, low-pile carpets and large debris, and hard floors with ground-in dirt, so you can adjust for each surface type.

How does the de-tangling feature actually work?
The Motorbar cleaner head uses built-in technology to automatically clear hair that wraps around the brush bar as you clean, rather than requiring you to stop and remove it manually.

What accessories come in the box?
Two accessories are included: a stair tool and a combination tool. No additional attachments are listed as part of the standard package.

Is there a warranty?
The machine comes with a 5-year warranty. You can register it through the MyDyson app to access personalized maintenance guides and lifetime customer support.
