Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum, HEPA, Powered Lift-Away, AZ4002

The Shark PowerDetect AZ4002 is an upright vacuum designed to remove the guesswork from floor cleaning across mixed-surface homes. Built with Powered Lift-Away capability and integrated HEPA filtration, it caters to households dealing with embedded pet hair, heavy dust, and frequent transitions between hard floors and carpets.

Cleaning performance centers on the DuoClean Detect system, which combines two brushrolls with four Intelli-Sense sensors. These sensors actively monitor cleaning conditions and adjust power in real time. Dirt Detect pinpoints hidden, embedded debris inside carpet fibers and ramps up cleaning power over trouble spots, while Floor Detect uses an ultra-sonic sensor to recognize floor types and balance suction alongside brushroll speed.

Baseboard cleaning is handled through the dedicated Edge Detect feature. When the vacuum head gets within 2 inches of a wall or corner, it automatically increases suction to pull debris directly from edges and under baseboards without needing separate crevice attachments.

As a full-sized upright vacuum, it offers robust automated features, though the listing does not specify exact physical measurements, cord length, or dust cup capacity. Shoppers looking for a strictly manual or ultra-lightweight stick vacuum may find the automated sensor system and upright build more complex than basic models.

Verdict: The Shark PowerDetect AZ4002 is an excellent choice for homeowners with mixed flooring and pets who want automated suction adjustments. Its multi-sensor design and edge cleaning capabilities deliver thorough, hands-off power adjustments from room to room.

A great fit if you:

• Have a home with both carpeting and hard floors that require automatic adjustment
• Deal with embedded pet hair and hidden debris across high-traffic living areas
• Want stronger edge cleaning along walls and baseboards without switching tools
• Prefer an upright vacuum that includes HEPA filtration and Lift-Away functionality

Consider something else if you:

• Prefer a lightweight, basic stick vacuum without automated sensors
• Want a vacuum with full manual control over suction and brushroll speeds
