Shark Rotator Lift-Away Vacuum, DuoClean PowerFins, Dark Grey, LA555

The Shark LA555 is a corded upright vacuum built around a two-brushroll system called DuoClean PowerFins HairPro. It targets households that deal with a mix of surfaces, pet hair, and allergy concerns, and it tries to handle all three without requiring multiple tools or constant manual cleaning of the brushroll. If you have both rugs and hard floors and a pet in the house, that combination is exactly what this machine is designed for.

The DuoClean PowerFins setup pairs a soft roller with a finned brushroll. The soft roller keeps direct contact with hard floors to pull in fine dust and larger debris in the same pass, while the finned brushroll agitates carpet fibers to loosen embedded dirt. The self-cleaning brushroll is the other headline feature for pet owners: it actively works hair off the brush as it spins, so you are not stopping every few minutes to cut tangled fur away by hand.

Filtration is a genuine strength here. Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology combined with a HEPA filter means the air leaving the vacuum has had 99.9% of dust and allergens captured and contained. That matters for anyone sensitive to dust or dander, because a vacuum that leaks filtered air back into the room defeats its own purpose. The Odor Neutralizer Technology is a separate feature aimed at keeping the vacuum itself from developing that stale, dusty smell that built-up debris can cause inside the machine.

The Lift-Away design is worth understanding before you buy. Pressing a foot pedal detaches the canister pod from the upright body, letting you carry it to stairs, upholstered furniture, or any spot the full upright cannot reach. It adds versatility, but it also means you are holding the pod by hand for those jobs, which takes a bit of coordination. The listing does not state the weight of the pod or the full unit, so if that matters to you, it is worth checking before purchasing. Similarly, bin capacity and cord length are not listed, so range and how often you empty it remain open questions.

Verdict: This vacuum suits households with mixed flooring, pets, and at least one person who cares about allergen control. The self-cleaning brushroll and HEPA seal address the two most common frustrations with pet-hair vacuums, and the Lift-Away pod makes it more than a floor-only machine. Shoppers who need a lightweight cordless option or already have simple, single-surface floors may find it more vacuum than their situation calls for.

A great fit if you:

• Have pets that shed and want a brushroll that clears hair without constant manual detangling
• Clean both carpeted rooms and hard floors and prefer one vacuum that handles both
• Live with someone who has dust or pet dander allergies and needs genuine HEPA-level filtration
• Want to vacuum stairs and furniture with the same machine rather than switching to a separate tool

Consider something else if you:

• Need a cordless vacuum for maximum freedom of movement around the home
• Have only one floor type and want a simpler, lighter machine for quick daily pickups

Does this vacuum work on both carpet and hard floors?
Yes. The DuoClean PowerFins system uses two brushrolls: one that digs into carpet pile and one that stays in direct contact with hard floors, so it is designed to transition between surface types without switching modes.

Will it pick up pet hair without the brushroll clogging?
The self-cleaning brushroll is specifically designed to remove hair as it spins, reducing the buildup that typically causes tangles and loss of suction on pet-hair vacuums.

Is the HEPA filter sealed so filtered air does not escape back into the room?
Yes. Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology works alongside the HEPA filter to trap 99.9% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum rather than allowing them to recirculate.

Can I use it on stairs without carrying the whole upright unit?
Yes. Pressing the foot pedal separates the canister pod from the main body so you can carry just the pod and clean stairs, furniture, and other hard-to-reach areas.
